In a major step forward for connected driving, Apple officially launched CarPlay Ultra in May 2025, introducing a next-generation experience that goes far beyond the traditional infotainment system. First teased at WWDC, CarPlay Ultra is now live, starting with Aston Martin vehicles and it’s setting the standard for what seamless smartphone-to-car integration should look like.

CarPlay Ultra is Apple’s most advanced in-car system to date. It not only takes over the central infotainment display but also extends its interface to all available driver-facing screens, including the digital instrument cluster. That means your speedometer, fuel gauge, navigation, and media can all live in a beautifully designed Apple ecosystem right in your dashboard.

Apple CarPlay vs Apple CarPlay Ultra

Unlike traditional CarPlay, Ultra brings Apple’s design and functionality to every screen in your vehicle. That includes real-time driving metrics like RPMs, tire pressure, and fuel levels, integrated directly alongside Maps and widgets.

Customizable Layouts

Apple is finally letting drivers personalize their experience. With widgets and theme options, you can tweak the layout to prioritize what matters most—whether it’s your next turn, music queue, or vehicle diagnostics.

Smart Vehicle Controls

CarPlay Ultra now allows control over in-car functions like climate settings, seat heaters, and even the radio—directly from your iPhone or car’s touchscreen. Plus, Siri integration means you can keep your hands on the wheel.

Integrated Radio App

A new addition is the built-in Radio app, which lets users manage AM, FM, and satellite stations directly within the CarPlay interface—no more awkward switches between native car software and Apple’s UI.

Who’s Getting It First?

Apple rolled out CarPlay Ultra with Aston Martin, covering 2025 models like the DBX, Vantage, DB12, and Vanquish in the U.S. and Canada. These vehicles either ship with Ultra pre-installed or will receive it via a software update in the coming weeks.

Apple also confirmed that brands like Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis are working to adopt CarPlay Ultra in their upcoming lineups over the next year.
